Obituary of Roger Dean McConkey

Roger Dean McConkey, 71, passed into the loving care of our Heavenly Father on April 8, 2026, at his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Roger was born on May 10, 1954, to parents Bonnie and Alfred McConkey in Lenox, Iowa.

He grew up with 8 siblings: Richard, David, Jerry, Rebecca, Irene, Frieda, Tammy, and Louis.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Lupe McConkey. Roger and Lupe were married for 37 years and celebrated their love with a wedding ceremony on November 22, 2003.

Roger is also survived by his children, Yvette Arias, Ruby Arias, and Isaac McConkey; daughter-in-law Ashley McConkey; grandchildren Allison McConkey, Sophia McConkey, Mia Armendariz, Serena Armendariz, and another granddaughter on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Roger was a state-qualifying wrestler and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his career, Roger worked as a supervisor for Foxworth Galbraith. Roger loved to play pool, go fishing, shoot his bow and rifles, and listen to classic rock and roll music. He will also forever be remembered as quite the storyteller and being a passionate and die-hard Green Bay Packers fan.

Roger deeply loved his family and found them to be his greatest joy in life. His straightforward, authentic, get-to-the-point personality will be greatly missed by all of us. Archbishop Paul personally was the beneficiary of knowing Roger and had several feisty and loving encounters with him.

Let us come together to honor his life and legacy.
