Obituary of Myer Schaffner
Westminster Historymaker Mike Schaffner, born Nov. 11, 1920 in Waukegan, IL, passed away in Westminster, CO on June 7, 2014. Preceded in death by his parents Mollie and Manuel Schaffner, his first wife Thelma, second wife Charlotte, son Bill and sister Florence. Survived by daughter Susan Schaffner. Mike opened a gasoline and service station near 72nd and Lowell in 1955 and eventually grew it to the company that became Peerless Tyre Company. By 1966 he owned 38 locations and started selling tires, batteries and accessories to commercial and public accounts. Mike was also the first to add a carwash in a gas and tire store. In 1960 he became a founding member of the Westminster Rotary Club, serving in many capacities. He supported many projects in Westminster from providing tires for local ambulances to funding and advising many of Westminster projects, helping Westminster to become the great city it is. Mike was also involved in several associations traveling the world and locally advising and sharing business ideas to help make this a better world for all.
