We first met Howard and Mary Wichter as fast pitch coaches in the Highlands Ranch Recreation Leagues, when our daughters were both quite young. Eventually, as our daughter, Grace, advanced to competitive fast pitch leagues, she ended up on the same teams with Sara Wichter as a player and with Howard as one of their coaches.
Howard was a very knowledgeable and dedicated coach who took extra time to coach our daughter on an individual basis in addition to his duties as a coach to her teams. Grace was brought up to understand and appreciate intelligence coupled with ascerbic wit, both of which qualities Howard possessed in great quantity.
Grace had enough experience with New Yorkers, given our frequent visits to the City, to understand and relate to Howard's approach to the game and to life. He was both patient and kind to Grace and she came to be one of his biggest fans and always considered him a mentor.
We are forever grateful for his efforts on behalf of Grace and her teams and for the long friendship between our family and the Wichters.
Howard: you were a fine man and you will be sorely missed.
Our deepest condolences to the Wichter family on his loss.
