Obituary of Samuel Shindler
Samuel Shindler beloved father and survivor of the Holocaust died on September 18 2008 after a long illness. Sam was born Schmuel Szynder on April 24 1924 in Ludmir Poland.
His parents Eliyahu and Doba along with his sisters Mindel and Rachel perished at the hand of the Nazis. Sam and his sister Bela survived and Sam sailed the General Buttner to Ellis Island in 1951. Sponsored by the Jewish Federation Sam came to Sioux City Iowa where he met and married the late Dorothy Edith Sterling and later opened American Metal Inc. In 1999 Sam moved to Denver Colorado where he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren. Sam is survived by his three children Debi Shindler-Fox of Mpls. Elyn Shindler Moldow of Denver and Eloit Shindler of Plano in addition to seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildrfen. Donations in his memory may be sent to The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. Beth Nahamah Hospice in Denver or Congregation Bnai Havurah in Denver. Services and burial are in Souix City Iowa.
